05-02-2026 - 6:05 AM - Good Morning! It's Saturday, and local Amateur (ham) Radio Operators have been known to meet informally for breakfast at 8:00 AM at the Pioneer #3 Restaurant at Old Iowa Park Road and Sheppard Access Road. Look for handheld radios on the table, and you’ve probably found them. I have no plans for today. At the moment, I have CW (Morse code) running in the background on the Amateur (ham) Radio 40-meter band, and my Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

--- 6:10 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Sunny, with a high near 78. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 53. South wind around 7 mph.

--- 6:15 AM - ERCOT (Texas) snapshot of grid conditions - ERCOT reports that conditions are normal and there is enough power for current demand with an operating reserve of 8,770 Megawatts.

--- 6:20 AM - NWS Short Range Weather Discussion

--- 6:25 AM - NWS Extended Range Weather Discussion

--- 6:30 AM - According to Water Data for Texas, Wichita Falls reservoirs are: Arrowhead: 85.4% Kemp: 95.7% Kickapoo: 87.3%. Monitored Water Supply Reservoirs are 90.2% full. The City of Wichita Falls uses combined levels of Arrowhead and Kickapoo (86.35%) to determine drought stage.

--- 6:40 AM - There is a lot of military air traffic on the scanner this morning. One busy frequency is 350.350 MHz. Tune in to that and more on your scanner radio! Also, check here for more local scanner radio frequencies.

--- 7:00 AM - Is it just me, or is the term "data breach" becoming normalized? I'm just about ready to place data breaches in the same category as the F-Bomb, which, due to overuse, is now nothing more than a tiny firecracker in its effect on the senses.

F-Bomb

--- 7:20 AM - The weekly (Saturday) Montague County Simplex Net kicks off at 9:00 AM on 147.500 MHz. You'll need a good (high) outside antenna to monitor the Net Control Station on your scanner radio.

--- 7:50 AM - FEMA Daily Operations Briefing

06-20-2025 - It was early 1976 when I began venturing into the City of San Francisco after being assigned to the U.S. Army post at the Presidio of San Francisco. One of the first businesses that caught my eye was a nightclub called "Dance Your Ass Off." I thought, "Toto, we're not in Wichita Falls anymore!"

--- 8:15 AM - Things to do in Wichita Falls - Collector's Den (Comics) - 4020 Rhea Rd #4E - 940-386-9404.

--- 8:45 Am - There must be a "band opening" this morning because I hear a General Mobile Radio Service repeater on 462.600 MHz. I don't think we have one nearby. Tune in to the action on your scanner radio.

--- 10:10 AM - I contacted a station in Lake Zorinsky State Park (US-5658) in Nebraska on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

--- 1:00 PM - About a decade ago, a small eatery opened on 7th Street in downtown Wichita Falls. The featured item on the menu was a catfish plate that came with two “side” dishes. We ordered it. We were told that they were out of one of the advertised sides, so we picked another. I don’t remember what they were. No big deal. What I do remember was the single catfish fillet. I checked the menu to make sure we didn’t order the child’s plate. We did not. We didn’t question them or complain. We didn’t return, either.

--- 1:50 PM - Several decades ago, I was walking behind two young men in Sikes Senter Mall. When they reached the big intersection, they turned right toward Sears. Remember Sears? Anyway, the man on the right made a 90-degree turn. The one on the left made two 45-degree turns. I’m not saying they were Airmen, but I think they were Airmen!

--- 2:35 PM - Some kids are playing on the Family Radio Service, quick-keying and roger-beeping away. It sounds like they're having fun.

--- 6:30 PM - The Texas Rangers are on TV, and the Local Group is on CB Radio Channel 23. Right now, the CB guys are doing better than the Rangers.
